Self-worth should be in the parent toolkit
Self-worth comes from self-understanding and accepting oneself. A nurturing and loving family is a child's first experience of acceptance of self and others. The first experience of valuing oneself in spite of what others may say or do.
We can only accept others once we accept ourselves. Who we are. The shape of our bodies. The colour of our skin. The texture of our hair. A child needs to hear from a parent or caregiver that she / he is beautiful, has lovely skin, gorgeous hair, kissable lips, sings like an angle, is a star of creativity, etc, etc
The parent toolkit is not only about feeding and washing and teaching manners. It is also about showing and modelling self-love and self-acceptance. Parents and caregivers who have a sense of self-worth are models for young children and teens who watch and do!
