Banning alcohol temporarily will not change behaviour!

Without doubt the results of alcohol (and other substances) misuse is devastating our society - the trauma of alcohol related assaults, motor vehicle accidents, robberies, sexual abuse and rapes, neglect of children and the elderly is well documented by police and hospital records.

But does the ban stop these behaviours? No - there is a temporary delay of certain kinds of crime however GBV and domestic violence does NOT decrease. The numbers are temporarily hidden while we congratulate ourselves that MVAs and common assaults decrease.

Real change comes with a real plan to address the long term issue of violence in our society. Behaviour change starting within families where violent behaviours are modelled and condoned is the entry point. Change behaviour not the sale.
